Eighteen kilometres and eighteen rapids through the finest part of the Tara canyon. No overnight, no complications — one day you'll remember for years.
This is the descent everyone asks for. Eighteen kilometres from Brštanovica to Hum, through the most thrilling part of the canyon — the rapids come one after another, and between them the river calms and lets you look up at walls that rise a thousand metres. No experience needed: in the raft is a river guide who has run the Tara for over twenty years and knows every rapid by name. You paddle when he says, and enjoy the rest of the time.
We welcome you at camp in Hum, where the Tara meets the Piva. A welcome rakija (homemade brandy) and a quick rundown of the day. No fixed time — come when it suits you.
Pick your kit: wetsuit, boots, life jacket, helmet and paddle. Your guide runs the briefing — how to paddle, how to sit, what to do if someone falls in. Short, clear, and only when everyone's ready — then we go.
We drive you to the put-in in our vehicles. The ride along the canyon rim is part of the experience — the view of the Tara from above sets the scene for what's coming.
The most spectacular stretch of the Tara. We stop for a swim in emerald water and for photos at spots no road can reach. In May the current is fast and the descent takes about an hour and a half; in August it's calmer and warmer, stretching to three and a half hours.
Rafts pull in at camp. Hot water, shower, dry clothes — and then, if you booked with lunch, the reason so many guests come back.
A creamy homemade soup to start. Then veal cooked under the sač (a traditional iron bell) — from local calves, not from something that spent two months travelling from Argentina — with homemade bread baked the same way, over embers. Fresh salads from gardens nearby, and the kajmak and cheese are homemade, from mountain villages close by. Home-baked desserts to finish.
The sač is what we're known for — meat and bread baked over embers, slowly, without rush.
Lunch is optional — but it's the reason so many guests come back.
Every package can be adjusted and combined — rafting, canyoning, day trips and extra days by arrangement.
