What to Pack for Rafting the Tara

Rafting the Tara doesn't take much kit — most of it comes from us. But a few small things can turn a good day on the river into a perfect one. Here's a proven list, from guides with over 20 years on the Tara.

What we provide (you don't need to bring)

Full rafting kit on site: wetsuit, neoprene boots, wind jacket, life vest, helmet and paddle. Everything is fitted to your size before we leave.

The raft also carries waterproof barrels for anything you want to keep dry on the run. Every trip is led by a licensed guide — your safety and navigation through the canyon are on them.

What you must bring

Swimwear or shorts (worn under the wetsuit), a towel and dry clothes for after the run. Footwear that can get wet — sandals, trainers or boots you don't mind soaking.

Sun protection: cream, a cap or hat, glasses with a strap. The sun on the water and in the canyon is stronger than you expect, even under cloud.

For multi-day tours

Toiletries, a warm layer for evenings at camp, a head torch and a phone charger. You sleep in a bungalow, but nights by the river can be cooler.

A waterproof pouch or dry bag for documents and your phone on the water, plus a little cash for anything you need at camp.

What NOT to bring

Jewellery, watches and valuables — leave them in your room or at home. Large amounts of cash aren't needed.

A phone without waterproof protection — always keep it in a sealed case or dry bag. There's no room for risk on the water.

A short packing list

Swimwear, towel, dry clothes, sun protection and water shoes. For multi-day trips — warm layers and toiletries.

Leave the kit, vest, helmet, guide and meals to us — that's our job.
