Sutjeska National Park — A Day Trip from Camp

While you're here, Bosnia and Herzegovina's oldest national park is an hour's drive from camp. For guests staying several days, a day in Sutjeska is a natural break from the river — and many say it was the highlight of their stay.

Perućica primeval forest

One of the last primeval forests in Europe. Never felled, never touched — trees that grow, fall and rot exactly as they did a thousand years ago. You enter only with a park guide, and that's a good thing: without one you'd walk past everything and see nothing.

From the Dragoš Sedlo viewpoint the whole forest opens up, and Skakavac waterfall drops some eighty metres into the valley.

Lake Trnovačko

A heart-shaped glacial lake at 1,517 metres, ringed by Volujak and Maglić. You hike up to it — not a stroll, but not an expedition either. The water is painfully cold and clear to the bottom. It's one of those places people come back to these mountains for.

Maglić — the roof of Bosnia

At 2,386 metres, the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina. For those in good shape with a full day to spare. On a clear day you can see Durmitor and half of Montenegro from the top.

How it works from camp

We organise Sutjeska trips for guests on a multi-day package with us. We tailor it to how many of you there are, how fit you are and how much time you have — then choose Perućica, Trnovačko, or both.

Price on request. Guests who've already booked a rafting package get our best rate.

What to bring

Decent trainers or hiking boots, a jacket (it's colder up there than in the canyon, even in summer), water and something to eat. Everything else we sort together.
